PROPERTIES – USES
In modern herbal medicine, χρησιμοποιούνται το αφέψημα εσωτερικά για γαστρεντερικές διαταραχές, ως αποχρεμπτικό, καταπραυντικό, decoctions are used internally for gastrointestinal disorders, as expectorant, soothing, mouth inflammation or sore throat (gargles, rinses), eye irritation (rinsing) and chamomile extract and tincture for external use in eczema and other skin lesions. Chamomile has been used together with other plants in neonatal colic and in constant proportion to other plants called Iberogast for gastrointestinal disorders (indigestion, gastroesophageal reflux disease, irritable colon, flatulence, etc.) In experimental studies chamomile extract showed anticancer, anti-inflammatory and antipruritic action. Flower extract is used as a cleanser and conditioner for hair, especially light colored ones. The decoction from its flowers contains, among other things, fat-burning substances against obesity. The common chamomile has been recognised by the European Council as a natural source of aroma in food. The essential oil of its flowers is used in aromatherapy, cosmetology perfumery for the aromatization of various products. It is also used in homeopathy, while chamomile tablets or diluted tincture can help babies who take out teeth or have colic. It is also used as a liquid fertilizer for plants and generally for their tonicization, since it is effective against a number of their diseases.
